Interesting recollections and, again, an important contribution to the history of post-war Allied forces in W. Germany (British, Canadian, et al). So glad Wady Lehmann has written his recollections down and made it available.

I have yet to finish reading Wady Lehmann's memoir but from what I have read, there isn't a lot of morbidity in it, really. It's mostly about the background stuff, what he experienced while investigating war crimes against Canadian military personnel, the difficulties in getting eye-witnesses to come forward and/or say anything on the record, the frustration of travelling through crummy weather to some g-dforsaken place to interview someone only to find they were unavailable, didn't live there anymore, or wouldn't speak to his team anyway. It makes for interesting reading.

Here, again, there is an important and too often neglected history. War crimes against Canadian soldiers is beyond the ken of most people -- against Canadians???? Not possible!!! Of course, the Nazis did horrible things to a lot of folk, including PoWs. Actions against the Americans, there is a general awareness of that, as there is of crimes against British/Australians and Russian troops. We certainly know how the French and Dutch Resistance were treated. But we hardly -- if ever -- hear anything about other Allied troops' treatment.

Lehmann touches on a few cases but not in any great detail, at least not to the point I've read. I assume the actual details of atrocities are available elsewhere.
