PostSubject: British Troops In Berlin - Bronze medallion   Tue Oct 02, 2007 9:44 pm

I recently came across a bronze medallion 2" diameter. On one side it has the red & black formation sign in enamel and the words BRITISH TROOPS IN BERLIN, on the other side it has an embossed/stamped picture of what appears to be the olympic stadium. There is no date or other marks. I would like to hear from anyone who knows how old it is and whether it was struck for any special event or award. I haven't been able to find anything about it at all so I'd welcome any information.

It would appear that the British Military Commander authorised the reopening of the Sports Stadium on 7th September 1946 to allow the "Eight Nations' Track & Field" competition between Allied troops.

This event was on 7th & 8th September, and the medallion was issued to commemorate it!
