This barracks was the main Luftwaffe clothing depot whilst in its orignal owners hands.

I have also heard that it is as deep (if not deeper) as it is tall and that the bottom two floors were flooded after the war.

Now, after speaking with an eldery gentleman about the prison at Mossbank, he informed me that there was never a prison at Mossbank.

All the barracks in Bielefeld were named after places within Yorkshire, as there had been a Yorkshire division based in there after the war. Mossbank ...

Hello,

I was just looking for information on Bielefeld barracks after I bought a book of a former WW II German artillery officer (translated: "With Mortars, Howitzers and Cannons - Artillery Officer in Peace and War 1936-1945"). The author started his career in the Artillery Barracks in Detmolder Strasse in Bielefeld.

Therefore I would like to point out an error in the list of previous units posted to these barracks that were later called Catterick Barracks by the BAOR.

I am currently doing research on the former Luftwaffenbekleidungsamt (later Brixton/Richmond Barracks) at Am Stadtholz in Bielefeld in order to arrange a special exhibition concerning the history of the building. In order to achieve this aim we need all information we can get about the building. Your page is extremely helpful as it mentions a lot of details and photographs. Any further information of your readers concerning the building and its structure, even rumours concerning its role ...

Can you help with a query. When British Forces France closed down in 1947 a friend of mine was posted on detachment from No. 1 Ind Coy Loyal Regt to the MT section at 54 Holding Unit at Bielefeld as a dispatch rider. He can't remember which of the many barracks in Bielefeld it was. Any ideas.

Fantastic pictures. I was here in 1980/81 and worked in Block 10 which was the main HQ building. I worked in G Int/Sy which was in the attic and more secure than an armoury. We had locks on doors, grills, gates etc. etc. Even locks on locks. HQ 1 BR CORPS was a busy posting.

The pictures show the main entrance. To the left was the accommodation blocks. Mine was a former married quarter block. We had a flat which was divided into a small kitchen, living room, double bedroom and single ...

This picture shows one of the camps in Bielefeld being constructed. Could anyone hazard a guess to where this photo could have been taken.

Next, who/what is the gentleman on the right? His cap does not bear the eagle, nor swastika. His shoulders also carry pips/stars which was not a German trait.

To the forum, on behalf of Mrs G.

In 1967 I lived in Bielefeld and got to know a British captain. He lived in the Officers’ Mess but not the one you show in your pictures. It was a villa but was smaller than the house you show. I have forgotten the street where it was situated.

I have lost contact with this friend for a long time. He had to go back to Britain (Colchester) and came back some time later to Wuppertal.

I don’t know his regiment, neither have I much more information ...
