Do any old RASC/RCT types recall the trains (aside from the Berliner) that ran back in the 50s? I remember they were designated Red Train, Blue Train and (I think) Green Train. As I recall they ran between various cities in BAOR (do Berlin, Hamburg and Hannover sound right?) to the Hook of Holland or maybe also Antwerp. I never used them but I remember seeing them on occasion rolling through the Soest Banhof. The thread about the Berlin Train got me thinking about them. Some of our guys used them to go on leave to the UK, but most of us found it quicker to fly BEA from Dusseldorf.

Never sick once, I used to put some greasy bacon in my nostril,
and made a few others on board sick though!
I also remember the Trains, went over on my first posting on the Fowey
and took the train.Can't remember the colour though.

hi jerry,ihad the displeasure of sailing on the old sir lancelot from liverpool to belfast,1972 sick as a dog all night,sailed on the sir tristram from harwich to denmark,now that was a good crossing,i even turned up for meals,the chineese crew made a briliant pineapple flavoured rice pudding. and lastly on sir belvedere from harwich to hamberg,another bad one.

Our journey to a posting in Germany begain at LIverpool St Station in 1958 where we travelled to Harwich then sailed on the Military Boat to Hook of Holland where we boarded the Green Train to Lippstadt.It was one of three trains.The Blue went north up to Hanover and beyond and the Red to Berlin. As we were a army family we had first class seats and lovely food on board. I heard when we arrived that the soliders where not so lucky. We use to have to travel by train home on leave untill about 1962 when we could travel by plane from Gutisloh. We were in Germany for six of the best years of my life. My parents came out to visit us and they two came out on the Military train.I dont think it cost us anything to bring them out.

How I remember those luxurious trains that took us from BAOR to Ostend and then to UK.Travel first class that was,my first was spoilt by me being earmarked at Ostend for guard duties on the boat,chained rapist and killers,down in the hold of the ship,boy,was I glad to see the light of day again and Breaklfast in Harwich!
