PostSubject: Updates to Main Site pages   Wed Oct 21, 2009 5:05 pm

I have added this to the list of topics so that I can let you know when a page has been updated.

It will make it easier than listing each on its own subject page in the Forum (if there is one to start with that is). It may also chivvy others into joining and sending information.

So far, since I started back again, I have managed to update a number of pages, as shown below. There is more work to be done, and if you have sent information, may I ask two things.

1. If it was sent to Philip, I cannot access it. I have asked him to send any messages on to me in batches. So if it was sent to Philip, send it again to me please.

2. If you sent the information to me, remind me what it was about, and I will look for it. If I cannot find it I will tell you so.

Updated pages

Delmenhorst - 18 October 2009 (Complete re-work of page, correction of unit locations and Barrack names)

Alma Barracks - 17 October 2009 (Additional text and new photographs)

Events and Parades - 15 October 2009 (Queen's Parade, Sennelager added)

Locations - 15 October 2009 (Wilhelmshaven, Havelsee, and Jever added)

Wilhelmshaven - 15 October 2009 (Coat of Arms added and additional text)

Kit and Equipment - 15 October 2009 (New Photographs on A and B Vehicle pages)

Aurich - 14 October 2009 (Additional Text regarding Canadians, Danish, and Barracks Name)

Jever - 14 October 2009 (New page includes RAF Jever and Cardigan Barracks)

Kit and Equipment - 12 October 2009 (Blowpipe added to Weapons page)

Kit and Equipment - 12 October 2009 (CVR(T) Spartan added to A Vehicles page)

Events and Parades - 11 October 2009 (Queen's Silver Jubilee Parade now on own page)

BAOR on Google Earth - 10 October 2009 (Germany updated [Germany 2], Austria added)

Norway - 9 October 2009 (Additional information regarding Brigade deployment)

PostSubject: Re: Updates to Main Site pages   Sat Oct 24, 2009 2:30 pm

On the main site, two links have been added.

Links - RAF Winterberg - a site showing a history of the "Gee" chain in Germany, and numerous photographs from various contributors.

Links - Heraldry of the World - not strictly military, but useful in identifying civic arms of locations where need be. With over 53,000 to date, most people should be able to find what they are looking for.

Ooooh...that's a great idea, Paul! As I just mentioned in the "Germany 1955 to 1957" thread, my family and I were history buffs (and of course therefore LOVED being in Germany!). One of the things I found of interest was the various stadtwappen (city crests) and the stories behind them. The red key of Soest for instance was tied into Soest being not only a Hanseatic city (merchant town) but also had a connection to the Bishopric of Cologne at one time and the Key of St. Peter, seems to me.

The White Horse of Westphalia...I forget the legend now, but with a bit of Googling could find it.

Various saints on the wappen, many of which were tied in with saving the populace from the Black Death or being conquered or some such....

I'm looking forward to seeing some of the Heraldic devices. Of course, some of been changed since we were all there. I know the ones for Hemer and Iserlohn have been slightly altered because of the addition of other areas into the Kreis and the incorporating of their heraldic symbols into the 'new' crests.

Paul --

I am not having any luck locating your new addition "Heraldry of the World" but perhaps I am looking in the wrong place.

By Main Page, do you mean where all the categories (General, Locations Within BAOR, etc) are listed or the main page as one clicks onto the site, what I would refer to as the Home Page?

Thanks

PostSubject: New Locations   Sun Nov 08, 2009 5:21 pm

Some of you may have noticed on the Locations page that there are a number of new locations with no link.

This is because I am yet to form a page for those locations.

Paul.
