| Hmmm..."ratzeputz" doesn't sound like a toilet cleaner to me. Sounds more like the reproductive orifice of a female rat...still off-putting LOL I mean...a RAT???? Nobody gets THAT drunk LOL. I certainly never did, that's for dang sure. That I remember, anyway.... The Germans certainly came up with some lethal schnapps, some I liked others not so much. Now, Jaegermeister....I always kind of liked that, despite it tasting like cough medicine. It's become quite popular here in Canada as a shooter (small pure alcohol backer thingy), which is almost blasphemy. Usually served chilled, but not always. Nobody here believes me when I tell them it's actually a 'stomach bitter', designed to soothe an upset tummy, not create one LOL. As for the legend behind the stag with the glowing Cross between his antlers...nobody around here is interested. Philistines! |

| I dont recall a German label with " Schnapps" on although its always quoted by Brits in reference to things German. Just like "Lager" Maybe a German language expert could put me right. "Korn" I remember in my introduction to all things German at a Bundeswehr base near Munster. A mad skittles evening-"ein mal pils und ein mal korn"-and so on. The last game was played in complete darkness, I think. |

Came from Celle and is served in this aera.
This drink is very strange. It is better not to breathe after drinking. Everybody who tried it know what I mean! |
As I recall it was a favourite practical joke to play on unsuspecting new boys by both German civvies and their mates back in the 50s. I tried it once...just once.
It has a red colour. As for taste...think straight alchohol laced with an extremely generous splash of Tabasco sauce. I think that pretty well descibes the stuff. I always figured it was made in someone's bath tub. |

Oh, I remember Underberg as well, dandc...had actually forgotten about it, however, until you mentioned it here. However, I don't think I'm confusing the two; Jaegermeister, as used by the purists, was, I am almost certain, not intended as a 'shooter' (again, I feel the need to explain what those are...essentially they are a 'toss-back' drink, usually sickly sweet or raunchy as hell with various "cute" names such as Fuzzy Navel. Almost pure alcohol, served in small shot glasses. The idea is to throw 'em back in one gulp. One can get very drunk very quickly on 2 -r 3 of the damn things). I thought I was certain about the stomach bitter thing, but perhaps on second thought I was mixing it up with Underberg, but ....hmmmm....oh, now I don't know LOL |
