| For all those lovers of the yellow handbag, i.e. Herforder Pils, I was thinking that now we have all these German supermarkets over here such as Lidl, Aldi etc, why don't we lobby them to supply it in the UK? There must be thousands of us ex's in the UK who would love to get our hands on this most lovely of beers once again. I realise you can still get it in specialised places if you look around but surely it wouldn't hurt them to stick a few thousand crates on the wagon each time they come over, would it? Must be the heat!!! |

| Wm Low ( a scottish supermarket as was) used to sell them late 80s'. The wife knew a lass who worked there and got a tip off when they were being delivered . If you weren't there when they came in you missed out. They flew off the shelves. Wm Low was then taken over by Tesco who stopped stocking them after about a year. God only knows why. Beers of Europe on tinternet used to stock them but they were out of stock on the site for ages and then they took them off the list altogether. We can't even get Wobblies up here but my brother gets them from a shop in Knaresborough and brings them up to me. ASDA sells jaegermeister but its 1/2ltr bottles and a bit expensive. Lidl rarely has Apfelkorn nowadays. I have a bottle of Herforder ( and yes its full) but its 2 years out of date |

| ALDI has the odd special buy now and then,I stocked up with DAB a few weeks ago,in the past they have had several good beers in including Dortmunder Kronen and Spaten Brau. Warsteiner is always on the shelves in Quality Save in this area,at 99p a half litre bottle its good value as well. |

Warsteiner 99p. That is cheap. We can get it in Home and Bargain but it is about £1.29.
I have emailed Lidl to ask if they could trial Herforder. I'll post whatever reply I get. They are usually pretty good and do get back to you, so fingers crossed. |

| I often wonder why Lidl and Aldi don't sell popular German beer in UK.I buy a crate(30 Bottles)of Herforder or Detmolder(hand brewed)for about the equivilent of 8 pounds sterling.Paulaner and Weisebier are my favourites with meals out at mid-day,or when the weather is warm.Jägermeister(from Wolfenbüttel)about 7 pounds a bottle,Berentzen Apfel about a fiver.Jever is a good beer drunk mostly by the Northeners. Prosit ----- Don PS - thinking about it maybe the reason they don't sell the German beer is because it has no preservative added(Law)then it may not have a long enough shelf life in UK? |

| Nice thread fellas - on my favourite subject too! From personal experience on trips back to the UK I can report that Morrisons (supermarket) always stock Franzikaner (dodgy spelling?) and Erdinger weizenbier (Flaschen) at reasonable prices. They are located alongside the UK bottled real ales/independant brewery offerings. I am unsure as to which areas of the UK have Morrisons outlets though - I can only speak for my native Teesside. I have also seen tins of 'Wobbly' in numerous independant 'Offies' & corner shops - one of which was an Asian mini-market! Donald, I agree - Jever is a good (herb) bier, in fact it's my favourite - best supped cold after a hard days graft. Drunk mostly by northeners as it is from the Bremen area - I'm planning on doing a brewery trip there in the near future. I was at the Herforder Brewery last year and it was a damn good afternoon out and worth every penny (erm, cent I should say). 5 euro for the cursory tour and then 2+ hours in the bar sampling the products (free, and ever-flowing), with free food and a nice souvenir glass to boot! Cheers, Archie |

That sounds good to me,free grub and all you can drink for around a fiver. If your ever in Sainsbury's try a bottle or two of Innis and Gunn, brewed in Edinburgh and aged in oak casks, comes in at 6.5% so you dont need many. I'll be in Tesco's later, three cases of Becks for £20,hold me back. |
