I was not able to with the cap badge (still looking), but TonyE was about the APC markings.

Thank you TonyE, I will pass that on.

PostSubject: Keith Bradbury (first photo)   Tue Sep 22, 2009 4:38 pm

The more I look at the photograph the more I suspect that this could possibly have been either a section/platoon photograph, or possibly a squad photograph somewhere near the end of basic training.

The "Rupert" was probably the Section/Platoon Commander, and the body with the knife edge creases on the left seems to have a W.O.'s badge of rank on his wrist. Third from left on the front rank has a single stripe, whilst on the other side of the "hossifer" is a sergeant complete with sash, and is that a Pace Stick I see in his left hand, or just a cane. Second from right in the rear rank, there is a patch behind the cap badge - a Platoon ID or a rebadge from another Regiment?

The photograph shows them in shirt sleeve order, so taken in late spring/summer/early autumn probably.

The cap badge still eludes me though. I have looked at quite a few but there is not a clear enough view in the photo to be absolutely sure.

Paul.

Boy I have blown up that photo but still cannot make out the cap badge, could it be RAOC !!. ... taken 50's or 60's by the BD uniform, the guy with the knife edge creases is too young to be a WO, its probably his watch, if he was a WO he would be sitting next to the Rupert. The Colour Sgt is carrying a 'Drill Stick' not a Pace Stick they are generally reserved for RSM's ... they look damn smart, good turn out Sar'nt Major, give them a 48 hr pass ..

Assuming the sash worn by the sr NCO or WO is red, it has to be an infantry regiment, which narrows it down a bit.

I know it's hard to decipher colour from a b&w photo, but red usually registers as a very particular 'tone' of dark grey in b&w photos and this sash doesn't quite have that tone...although it's close. Could it be green? Green also has a very specific tone to it in such photos....just a thought....

PostSubject: Keith Bradbury (more photos)   Mon Sep 28, 2009 12:48 pm

I have received another couple of photo's connected to this gentleman.

The first one might make the cap badge a little more identifiable (but I still can't really make it out). A couple of things come to mind with this photo.

Why are they not wearing "gaiters" or puttees?

The stonework (as in the group photo) does not seem to ring any bells from Germany. Could it possibly be somewhere in the UK?

The photo below is of Keith's brother. Does anyone recognise him? I used a thumbnail pic as it is quite large. Click on it for a bigger image.

looking at the platoon photo, the gent on the left is definatley wearing something on his wrist, but looks a bit young to be a WO.[it also look like they are wearing thier best boots check the toe caps].as to the chaps on the second photo,i think these two are either on jankers or fatigues, check out the working dress trousers and plimsoles,as far as the bks go it looks like some old established garrison town type bks, perhaps Nwest england,or even scotland, only my opinion, dave.

The guy on the left is wearing a watch not a WO badge. If he were a WO, the badge would be on his right wrist.

I thought about the Medics as well. Did they not use a patch behind the badge in some cases??
