With the Royal wedding being announced, each soldier will "voluntary" donate half a days wages to enable a substantial gift to be purchased for their highnesses on behalf of the army.

In these times of financial hardship I am sure everyone will agree that young newly weds have enough trouble setting up a home and running it so we must not begrudge them a decent gift. Current thinking is that we buy them Yorkshire?

It's all a cynical plot. Wullie and Kate have been courtin' since the met at Uni' so why now? Because the grubbiement thinks the public need a morale boosting event to cheer us all up and forget the strife that's about to befall us.
Aye they politicians are not daft; it's a put up job.

Afraid I must veto that old sport.

Doesn't Prince (Randy Andy) Andrew own Yorkshire ?

The Duke of Westminster owns Cheshire and lots of London.

No Bugger wants The Wirral

Buy them the bloody Wirral.

Dear fellow Generals,

I noted with great interest your plans and desires to engraciate the future monarch and his future spouse with an appropriate bedside gift. May I suggest we purchase them our previous colony of FRANCE. No one likes the place but it has substantial lease potential making it an ideal investment.

I think 2 days pay, voluntarily deducted from all Sgt's and above is an appropriate gift with 3 days pay for Cpls and below (as they otherwise will not be contributing equally) and Major Generals and above signing a card only as we have to entertain the future monarchs whims.

By jove, "Stinky" Wilde. Haven't seen you since I took you up the Khyber, but enough about Eton. How are you? How is the memsahib or is it sahib? Congratulations on your VD. I did read about it in the Gazette or was it Gay news?

Grand idea about the OR's contributing the most. Make them feel wanted and useful for once. Bunch of layabouts the lot of them. In great, great grandfathers day he would have had them charging the guns at Balaclava. Good old grandpa Lucan, what a man! Great Grandad had the beer swilling workshy swines go over the top at the Somme and still they moaned. He even allowed them to name their social clubs after him and are they grateful? Are they hell! Grandad did a fine job of planning Dieppe and Arnhem and once again the silly buggers mucked it up. They don't deserve Generals most of them.

These days they have the nerve to call themselves cavalry yet drive around in dirty great tanks. Bit of shrapnel never hurt anyone in my day, well not from where I was standing anyway.

Anyway, nice to hear from you, hope we can get together and share a Pimms and talk about the old days and the old ways (wink wink).

Cheery bye.

Yours Ponce

According to the news last night, the Canadian government (on behalf of their greatful and enthralled citizenry) have generously bought, among other things, canoes for the Royal brides and grooms (or grooms and brides) on every occasion since 1947.

I have this picture in my mind that they all languish in an unused RAF hanger somewhere in the UK, along with all the other paintings, spears, boomerangs, feather war bonnets, and other artifacts presented to Royal visitors over the decades.

On the other hand, could we not just invite them around to the NAAFI for a few pints?

Knowing Canadians, the choice of canoes could be a surreptitious way of telling them to 'go paddle their own canoe' instead of letting the tax payers do it for them .. then I'm just getting old and cranky ..

Teabag.

No good thinking of buying them Yorkshire. Most of it is owned by the Tories.
Apart from the Peoples Republic of South Yorkshire of course.
You could buy them a field in the East Riding where I live.

Noch ein bier,

Norman.
