Thanks for that Stu.

It's not often you get feedback.

If anyone would like a picture of the headstone I can send it.

PostSubject: Re: Spikes   15/12/2010, 21:44

We had a couple of K9’s as water tankers at Bielefeld. Bitch of a thing to drive, even with tank baffles the water surge as you went round a corner was enough to make most people loose control. Plus with 800kg of water on the back they were way underpowered and over worked.

I remember going on a winter exercise, I was shotgun in the Scammel with the recce mech. We already had a Bedford 3 tonner on an A frame behind us. As we were getting to the park up for the night we came across the K9 water tanker, stuck at the bottom of a rather muddy incline, it simply couldn’t haul its weight of water up the hill. So Dave the rech mech put a straight bar off our front on to it and we pushed it up the hill. As we entered the area one of the HQ officers looked at this strange site and said ‘what’s wrong with the Scammel, the water truck has to tow both him and the Bedford in”
