Hi Gordon,

That's great. Is it the original do you think. Also where abouts in Corsham is it situated ?
I have great memories of Bruno which was in Harewood Barracks when I was there in 1952. They used to say that it originated from Siemens and was put there just after the war.
Many thanks Bruno

Jim
After Harewood Barracks move to Essen 18th Army Group Signal Regiment later 10 Sigs...not the original...here goes but not my words!

"Bruno — the Cable Bear
In 1945, an undamaged statue of a bear holding a large cable drum was rescued from the ruins of Berlin, and smuggled out of the Russian Zone in a vehicle full of communications equipment. The statue was eventually installed with the Regiment at Herford. In the spring of 1948 the bear was hoisted into a place on top of a column which had once carried a German eagle. There he stayed until his ceremonial move to Essen-Kray. It was there that a visiting engineer from the German telecommunications firm Siemans recognised Bruno, as the bear was known. The statue had belonged to a German Cable firm Deutsche Fernkable Gesellschaft, and had stood at their headquarters in Rognitzstrasse. This was to eventually result in the return of Bruno to the firm with full honours at a ceremony in Essen-Kray on 28 October 1957. The firm was so delighted with the return of Bruno intact that they generously presented an exact replica to the Regiment on 28 May 1958. The statue was taken to Hounslow when the Regiment moved there, and was positioned in front of RHQ. With the disbandment of the Regiment, the statue was placed in the care of 243 Signal Squadron at Wilton"

Cheers
Steve
