Two seater from 4 Sqn RAF. They were the Sqn we provided ground comms for on exercise. Believe they gave cabbies to our lads after I had left so maybe the one in question as they were rare.

I can't begin to imagine what it'd cost to restore that to full working order

Where to keep it, any decent sized garden, runway not required. Better than a gnome as a conversation piece.

I was involved with the recovery of crashed RAF Harrier in July 76 the pilot Flt Lt Kirton from 3 Sqn RAF Wildenrath ejected with total engine failure but first guided the desending aircraft so would be away from the town of Borken in Germany...he landed in the fire!
Myself and another driver specialist from Willich near Krefeld went to the crash site with a Scammel low loader with an Eager Beaver fork lift on the back also taking tent sleeping bags compo cooker etc to find the RAF team staying in the local Gasthof...typical but they were friendly and we eat with then but back to the tent after a few beers...we had to 'assemble' the aircraft in a clearing in the wood taking several days and one of the civvy boffins who had come out from Farnborough approached me and pointed out a vital part was missing one the vanes of the engine intake...found it up high up sticking out of tree trunk so Eager Beaver forks to maximum height and working away with a hammer and chisel to get at the vital part...two more lads arrived from Willich to take the Scammel with the wreck to Farnborough and I returned to camp
Cheers
Steve - successful home move to near Cuxhaven Lower Saxony complete!

Steve
Was in Verden before your time. First 52 - 54 with my parents and then 58-60 with 112 Coy RASC Wksp REME. Had a great time, having a car enabled me to get out and about, built up a group of German friends mainly from the Langwedel area, we went to all the fests in the area - Frühling, Schutzen, Ernte and Weinachts, happy days.
