I went there once when I was retrading from Supply Specialist to Driver Radio Operator RLC (Which was an A trade - made the scalies jealous).

It's a barren and sad little outpost very much like Blackdown!

I was told that the Cpls mess was out of bounds to all but people on long courses (over 3 months) and PS.

My time there was 5 weeks learning about Ptarmigan etc so not elligible bugger off.

Five bleedin weeks for an A trade? Took me a year of morse pounding and keyboard hitting to get mine. I was doing your job before I even thought of upgrading but that was a B trade. Mind you in those days we had proper radios. Cue guys from before my time telling us about their proper radios with glass fings inside them. Cue Brum telling us about his time with heliographs with corporal Jones in the Sudan. farao

We didn't ponce about with those new-fangled heliographs lad !

A little black feller with a cleft stick, that's what we used.

Twice as fast as a heliograph they were, 'specially when them Fuzzy Wuzzies were after 'em.

They don't like it up 'em yer know ! afro

Who remembers the German aircrew, sitting in their rubber dinghy, in the duck pond.

(Capt Mainwaring) "Come out of there !"

(Germans) "No!"

Totally silly, so bloody funny.

"'Allo 'Allo", there's another, totally silly but SO funny. (Heil Hitler !, Plop !).

I sincerely hope our Canadian cousins get that stuff.

Dad's Army absolutely love that but dont get many Re runs out here in Thailand.

Also watched the series Called Pacific think it was meant to be the after Band of Brothers film.
Hmm must be able to download dads army out here.

It is Thailand and im amazed at what movies they can get hold of at times.

just off on a tangent here but do you guys remember "Get some in"I think one of the best lines ever is when the actor Tony Selby says to the new R.A.F. recruits "My name is CPL Marsh... B.A.S.T.A.R.D Marsh ... fag tor the CPL ...light for the CPL" those few word have lodge in my memory ...hope I have not offended with my certain word but it is meant to be taken in the context it was portrayed in the scene lol!

John Boy I am really offended. Never ever heard language like that when I was in. Razz

I remember that one, plus the army game. Probably rubbish if they were shown again but have to be taken as things were in those days.

Filthy disgusting language, especially from a Caterer - what would Gordon Ramsey have to say? As Teabag says, probably viewed a bit differently in this day and age but I must say that both Tony Selby and Windsor Davies portrayed the part of bullying WO/NCO perfectly, they were obviously NS men at some stage.
