In 1951 due to my ability to re-assemble a stripped down bicycle pump I was drafted into REME and eventually found my way to Luneburg, Wyvern Barracks, attached to the Royal Hampshires and The Scots Greys who were almost ready for leaving. Somewhere in my archives I have some photos of Wyvern which I will dig and post on the site.

Talking about Luneburg in its wider sense, my late uncle who served with the Middlesex Yeomanry in the last war finishing up at Luneburg where the surrender took place. As you know, they were or are now anyway R Signals.

It must have been the same bicycle pump that I had to assemble, along with a piece of chain from a sink plug!! because I ended up in the Royal Hamps in Luneburg 1952-1953, until the regt sailed to Malaya 18th Dec 1953. I finished my time clearing up the transit camp at Perham Down until Jan 1954 and then back to Lower Barracks Winchester for demob, because my mates and I had less than 3 months to serve when they sailed.

I well remember the old AKC Globe cinema, when you could get a seat in the 'balcony' a raised wooden platform some 10 inches above the seats in front, what's in its place now, berpat?
