PostSubject: D - DAY ANNIVERSARY   6/6/2011, 06:20

Well, it is 6 June in Australia, right now, anniversary of D - Day landings, 6.6.44.

in 2009, whilst on a Med/British Isles cruise on 'Crown Princess, we called in at Le Havre and I did a tour to Normandy Beaches, saw the battle sites, war graves etc. Memorable and moving.

So let us today remember those who served or fell on the D Day Beaches.

LEST WE FORGET

I was 9 years old when I heard the news on the radio. Means that I can pinpoint exactly where I was on the day, although at the time the significance of the events didn't register.

Afghanistan is not good, 4 Aussie servicemen have died in past 3 weeks.

But no mention of the D Day Landings is disgusting. Same here in the media, bugger all.
All the usual politics.

Anyway us Dinosaurs remembered D Day, even if I was born 4 years after they happened. As a kid I was brought up on military history, living in married quarters and all.
Well done lads.
