Although a Regular in REME in 1954 I baby sat to swot for my ACE exams, our billet housed 60 beds, 30 down each side, so studying was impossible! I do not know how it happened but I babysat for our Stores Sgt., then S/Sgt Hook - great bloke with a lovely family!!! - then ASM FitzGerald and Finally the OC Major Evans. One side effect was when I was made up to L/Cpl our CSM was not pleased and on my second day as a lance jack he put me on a charge. The ASM asked what I was doing all dressed up. On a fizzer Sir! Who? The CSM! A shake of the head, a smile and as he walked off he said doesn't he know who you babysit for!?!?! When the OC arrived he asked what I was doing in the corridor. On a Charge Sir! Must be some mistake! You trot off and get back to work!!!!
