| I've had BBC Radio 2 on in the background this morning. "Sounds of the Sixties"
Funny how records remind you of times and places.
"We've gotta get out of this place", The Animals, took me back to early '66. We were moved from Kirkee Mc Munn Bks Colchester, to Portsmouth Bks Munster. We went from 105mm pack howitzers to ancient 25 pounders and 5.5 mediums.
It was the most scabby, depressing camp imaginable and the record suited the mood at the time, perfectly.
"Rocket Man", Elton John, puts me in Andersonstown, Belfast, in '72. Our first tour. Talk about "in at the deep end" !

Radetsky March, one of our cavalry regiments had it as a march past.( Love it). Was it 14/20th H ? I always watch a programme from Austria on New Year's Day. They play Radetsky March and it's like their version of "Last Night of the Proms". Mind you, I think our March Past, "Light Cavalry", was better. |
