| No mystery, Brum. Dee Z and I both served in 42 Med Regt Lippstadt, around that time, if you remember, 29 Cdo had recently formed and were looking for volunteers, Dee Z did just that, won his Green Beret and became a "Cabbage Head" as opposed to a "Crap Hat". |

| [About St. Davids Barracks, i remember a welsh guy. he was originally from cardiff and after serving with the army, he stayed in Hilden, got married here and he ran his own garage for years and years and he was very popular here - he saddly passed away some years ago, i think, due to cancer. I think, he is burried here, as he settled down in Hilden and that was his hometown then.)
Hi Ulli,
I served in Hilden in 1967/8, loved the place and was sad when the regiment (34 Lt.AD regt RA) moved to Dortmund, I think the welsh guy was Vernon (taff) Renny, he was a vehicle mechanic in our workshop, and he married a lovely German girl called Rosie and when he first left the army and settled in Hilden he worked for a garage that was run by a chap who used to race Auto union cars in the 1930's who I think may have been quite well known in Hilden. The last time I saw him (1971) he was still working there but was looking to start his own business, very sad to hear of his passing.
