I may be jumping the gun here and presuming to speak for someone else...if so, I apologize.

However, in one of my other sites I frequently visit (non-military related but still The-Germany-I-Used-To-Know related) I fell into a correspondence with a fellow who is with a NATO outfit in Geilenkirchen of which I was not aware even existed. It is a similar set up of Canadians, Brits, Americans, French, etc. that we experienced...but on a much smaller scale...and yes, it is a 3-year plus stint and families do accompany them. I was rather pleased to learn of it, actually.
