Watched a program early hrs of the morning about Sandhurst not bad until I thought I was watching a scene from some American Vietnam war film. The Cadets were doing Bayonet drill... has to be done , when to my horror or rather disgust I heard the instructor shouted "WHAT'S A BAYONET FOR" and they all replied in unison "TO KILL...KILL...KILL " and then the instructor shouts" WHAT MAKES THE GRASS GROW" Again they all replied "BLOOD... BLOOD... BLOOD". I mean what is this shite unF******believable I know they have to show aggression surely not at the expense at their dignity and pride (next thing they will be calling the RSM "Gunny " and going round going "HUP" or "WHOP " lol! scratch

There was a similar programme, a week or so ago.

There was this Meathead of a Drill Pig yelling at some infantry Nigs . . "Show me your War Face !"

They should've just sat the kids down and shown them "Full Metal Jacket", at least the drill pig in that was funny. ("I didn't know they could stack shit that high !").

Beats me why they wear those silly Boy Scout hats.

I watched that programme the other night.
Where the hell did that meathead S/Sgt instructor from a cavaly regiment come from with a 'slashed' peak on his hat. I thought only the guards had a 'short' peak. He looked a right wally.

That`s not slashed..It`s made that way. With a properly slashed cap the peak can be adjusted to suit any situation. Some nutteres cut to far and the peaks fell off. lol!

Some people used to aspire to a "slashed" peak at Hereford too.

Raising the front of the hat with a stiffener called a "log" was another deviation, as was making the back of the hat sit lower, or "crushed".

Any attempt to wear any of the above would result in a scream of "C'mere Boy !" from the Provost staff and life would become unpleasant for the wearer.

Hi there,
I'm guessing these days most Drill Instructors 'slash' there peaks if they are on a posting as a drill instructor......it goes with the job..however...they look pretty stupid at R.D. with one !!

The last time I saw a "twat hat" with a slashed peak it had a REME cap badge on it. And a twat under it.

Apologies to the Cavalry. The S/Sgt or C/Sgt I saw on the Sandhurst TV programme was from the Mercia Brigade. This would be the successors of my late Dad's Regiment - The Worcestershire Regiment. I'm sure that the Mercia Brigade do not wear peaked caps with a slashed peak. Also, in combat dress he is wearing a khaki beret. Doe the Mercia Brigade wear khaki or black berets. His bere does not seem to have any material to form a normal beret which is supposed to pull down over the right side of the head.

"My it's a jelly doughnut" lol!

"A jelly donut, Private Pile ?" (That would be jam doughnut in our language, ((or a "Berliner", auf Deutsch)), by the way).

In my opinion the mysterious object under the early 20th century bed, is the lid from a tin of boot polish. Filled with Brasso (a proprietary metal polish) and ignited, this provided the means by which a spoon could be heated to the temperature required to burn the "pimples" from a new pair of Boots, Ammunition, prior to "bulling".

Clearly the "Powers That Be" are ashamed of such a practice, and so they should be !

Found it much easier to use an electric iron...Had to ensure it was properly cleaned afterwards so as to avoid black shirt collars etc. Laughing
