| Had a really nice day out at the Asbach Distillery, left Dusseldorf by Coach with a couple of cases of beer, good trip with the usual sing song on the way so were quite happy by the time we arrived, were given a tour round the Distillery, trying the product at all different stages of the process, by this time three sheets to the wind, we were then taken to a large board room, big long table down the centre, it was set out with lots of rolls containing lots of different fillings, also down the table were lots of bottles of Asbach complete with mixers, for those who wanted it, the whole Idea seemed to be to get ideas on advertising, how could they promote their product in the UK, because it was Weinbrant and was not recognised as a Brandy, after the food and drink it was a quick photo shoot then presented with half bottle to take away (apparently could not give us a full bottle, something to do with customs) then from there into the little town of Rhudesheim, trying the local wine, which for some reason seemed to sober us up, this however didn't last as we had more beers on the return journey. All in all a lovely day Les |

| Well it was a brilliant day out, don't know exactly how it came about but didn't cost us anything (apart from beer on the coach) and I forgot to mention there was also a large box of Liquers to take back for the wife.

As for choice I suppose you didn't have such a person as a PSO when you finished basic training? they seemed to have it in their heads that they knew exactly where you would be best off

| Hard to find Asbach Urhalt in any of the liquor stores here....I'm not a big fan of brandy (although I enjoy the odd dry sherry now and then),but always quite liked Asbach. Canadians quite often drank it with Coke! I prefer it straight up! Just the thing to take the edge off of a cold winter's night!! |

| Well Stephen it is not freely available here, there are just the odd ones who stock it and luckily for me my sons have been made very aware of those so that I make sure of the odd bottle here and there, I too like it with coke but also straight, when in Germany I do remember that a double was 50pf and the coke was 50pf so 1DM for a decent drink, oh for those days again
