Hi All,
Been a while since I last contributed anything, but thought a seasonal pic would not be out of place.
This was taken at Maresfield Barracks in 1958.
The chap on the right is Capt. (Angus) Frazer (REME), and who had just presented us with a couple of bottles of the "Hard Stuff" curtesey of the Officers mess.
I was LAD REME ATT. to 66 COY RASC.
Happy Christmas all!
santa

Gordon,

and before 7 Sigs it was 1 Corps Signal Regiment based in either Wentworth or Hammersmith barracks. I remember them when I was in Harewood Barracks 1952. The other Regiment next door to 1 Corps was 11 Armoured Div Sig Reg.
Just fancy, 3000 odd signallers rushing into Herford on pay night then.

Perhaps you're right, although I could've sworn that was the name.
Seem to be suffering from an increase in frequency of "senior moments" recently (I think the Statins they've put me on have summat to do with it.)
The camp was composed of bungalow buildings, (White) with composite floors (we used to use petrol to remove the excess wax from time to time, and which nearly caused a disaster one "bull night" when some wag dropped a lighted match accidently on purpose.)
Just down the road was a Zeppelin Tower in the woods converted into a small Gastatte, and I believe the Autobahn ran behind the camp, also in the woods, where there was a bridge over it.
(Posted a photo some months ago.)
PS. Do any of you remember the "Bumper" we used, to polish the floors?
Quite lethal if you tripped over it coming in a little the worse for wear.

brrowe , I recall visiting that barracks for a football match in '65, I believe that it was HQ 4 Div and Sig Regt (at the time). There was a slip road that we used behind the Autobahn Polizei Post that took you over the Autobahn bridge and the barracks was on the left?

66 Coy Rasc were in Belfast Barracks around that period.

.Not 4 Div Shelldrake. They were down the road at Hammersmith

Brrowe. Was the camp you mention split in two with a main road running between the two halfs???

Gordon!
There was a camp opposite ( I think) 21st Lancers? (Death or Glory badge)
I had to go there for MT spares if we'd run out of anything, and needed it in a hurry.
Again, my memory might be defective, but a road between the two camps would fit your description.
I believe the road led to Bad Salzuflen.
I vividly remember, whilst waiting, watching two chaps on fatigues lining up two rows of wooden lockers and a Centurian Tank reducing them to matchwood, and then them bagging it all up.
