SQUAD TAB

In uniformity a block of green moves around,
Odours beads of sweat drop to the ground,
Constantly the pace is kept by the pack,
Individual lifelines carried on the back,
Ten mile tab over hill, down hollow,
Pain is overcome gritting teeth and swallow,
A forced march ended, the pace has stopped,
Boots eased off, blisters to be popped,
Rest back on a Bergen, face to the sun,
Thoughts of tomorrow, yet another bloody run

Sounds like you had it pretty bad Tiny, especially in the cookhouse, I don't know why but my time was just the opposite, I just seemed to love all my time Drill, route marches, fieldcraft, weapons training, NBC and even the Food, had some really good ACC cooks in all areas where I served, in fact some could really rustle up a good show when we had special occasions in the Mess cheers

I'll have to throw my hand in with Les, well partly at least, I always enjoyed the drill and weapons training. NBC drill's were just a pain in the arrse, didn't mind route marches but hated runs with a passion, I couldn't understand why you'd teach blokes to shoot and then show them how to run!. I do get to press all the suits around here when a wedding or funeral crops up, they all bring their suits around the day before and when they are dressed I line them up for inspection. Haven't managed to teach the beggars how to march yet though but at least they can polish shoes these days. Wife says if I keep up my present performance she'll promote me to the kitchen after Christmas dinner next year!.

Where's me dad ma , where's me dad
He's gone away son,gone away
Where ma , where
Gone to war my son , gone to war
Why ma ,why
Cos' he's a solider son , he's a solider

Whens he coming home ma ,when
Soon my son , soon
Can I go out to play ma ,can I
Out you go my son ,out you go
Out I go with my toy gun
To play my war the son of a solider
For I am a solider son
