Hi Folks,

Going on a visit to Washington DC for a week commencing 19th March. Whilst there my Son and I are taking a trip (staying overnight) to West Point Military Academy. Anyone been there ? Like to know what to look out for etc.

So it would appear that no one has visited West point then. Well, I will have to cover new territory then. We'll see how it goes.

Actually, I did try to get into West Point once but was pipped at the post for the last vacancy.

Cavalryman he was. Funny sort of cove.

Allways remember, he had a pearl handled pistol and a chrome plated helmet.

(Think I prefer a purple one !) Embarassed

Whilst up around the West Point area, I'm going to pop in and say hello to the gang at Orange County Choppers. I know the Father & Son have different premises but I aint staying long - a couple of photos and that's it.

PostSubject: Re: West Point Military Academy   30/3/2012, 23:36

Hi folks,

Back from USA and visit to West Point amongst other locations. Only real way of seeing the Academy was to go on one of the visitor buses around the area. Stopped off at various places but didn't really see the goings on etc. It was just a basic tour with a guide pointing out various interests. We did manage to get back in on our own through the tight security and visited the cemetery which contained the graves of Maj-Gen Custer, Gen Westmorland (Vietnam), Gen Lucius Clay (Berlin Airlift), Gen patch (US 7th Army WWII) and many others.

Took some photos of the Statue of Liberty & Manhatten Island from the Liberty State Park. All in all an OK trip. Washington DC is one huge demolition site, cranes & diggers everywhere. The reflecting Pool is empty and being repaired due to leakage. The Monument is closed to the public as it is considered unsafe pending a detailed inspection due to the Virginia earhquake in August 2011. Probably my last visit to the US as there was a lot of walking and the old legs with their varicose veins just don't work.

Only away for a few days Len and for Shelldrake's ears, we had a Gunner officer on our tour bus visiting his parents who live in the USA. He was quite taken with West Point saying that Sandhurst just haven't got the real estate and vast open spaces like West point. He was impressed. My Son and I looked everywhere in the cemetery but could find no reference to Barnes Wallis!!
