An extremely interesting place, I've been around it twice some years ago. I certainly will make a trip up that way sometime in the future. Being the lazy type, I liked riding a:oops: round on the trams.....

San Francisco's 'trams' are cable cars, they don't run on electricity but are pulled by bloody great cable drums.

Thoroughly recommend a day out at the Beamish Museum, which has expanded enormously since it first opened thirty years ago. Good to see some of the earliest attractions are still very popular

Regarding trams, Croydon and Nottingham have successfuly reintroduced them and of course Blackpol never abandoned the system

Len (Ciphers)
I believe that the cars that run along the 'shore' line are electric, if not, my memory is shot to hell, I do remember that they were green in colour if that helps? As for the ones that travel up and down the hilly streets, yes they are cable cars in the true sense of the word, but the cable is hidden in the road, the cable itself is constantly moving, the trams connect and disconnect at the whim of the operator, its quite a feeling when you are going down hill and watching the operator [ who is in the middle of the car] pulling for all he is worth. Ian.

We had some very hot weather here in the east today so it was out to the 1940's week end. These people dress up for a hobby they spend a lot of money on their kit. I know a mate sold some para kit to one guy and authenticity is a must. I for one having had to wear the Queens uniform I don't really want to dress up any more so I spent the day observing. The radio sets are of interest being an ex signaller any one familiar with them please let me know. Any complaints, I don't get paid for my videos its just a hobby

At the Newbury Show this weekend a very passable FM Montgomery, a detachment of the US Screamimg Eagles, and a display of immaculately preserved military vehicles were part of a WW2 themed static display area. Overhead the Spitfire and Hurricane from the Battle of Britain Flight gave a flying display on the Sunday afternoon.

WW2 Nostalgia clearly is alive and well in this part of Britain and was not corrupted by the appearance of pseudo Nazis strutting their stuff.

An excellent film. Thank you for showing it. I display at shows, although Cold War era. It never ceases to amaze me the people who are willing to dress up to celebrate the WW2 era. I recently did a show down in Torbay. It was a Steam Fair, but has a very strong military section. The ladies spend £100's on getting their clothes and hair just right. Also, they are not just the older type, quite a few of the group are under 30. The civvy representatives look just as good as the military reps.

Here's a couple of the pics I took at the Stoke Gabriel Carnival, where we supported the local RBL Branch. The Land Army lady did not manage to gain the sausages from Cpl Jones Very Happy

I am also one of those sad old geezers who like wandering around these WW2 re-enactors displays that go on at various venues around the country. I have a great interest in USAAF 8th Army Air Forces bases around the East Anglia area where I live. Also like visiting private sites where locals have preserved the old WW2 Control Towers which ahve been dedicated to the memory of those US servicemen and women who were there during the 'Big Scheme'.

I occasionally visit old airfields like East Fortune in Scotland where the Scottish National Air Musuem is. There are a couple of places in Yorkshire and Licolnshire that have been turned into museum - the Lincolnsire, East Kirby, and a place in Yorhsire where the Hampster off Top Gear was injured during a jet car test run some years ago, at Elvington, just south of York. All very interesting.

I sometimes wonder why folks who engage in re-enactment have so much nostalgia for the 1940s during the tme the American Forces were over here. But I do say that I have always liked the Glen Miller 'Big Band' sound from those far off days.

Having been away last week I missed this post DZ.
As ever, my compliments on the quality of your video, I got no sound but the builders are in next door so I wouldn't have heard it anyway !
Ex-Flaggy as I too, am, I didn't recognise any of those sets, assume they were Yank but one had a Wehrmacht look about it.
A bloke who lives near me dresses up in the BD of the RMP, (brave man !) and has a huge collection of uniforms & militaria, must've cost him a fortune.
