Beats me how she became President in the first place - I suppose the clue is that her late husband was the President before her. There's a precedent here, just think what would have happened if Maggie had died in office -Mark !!!! Sorry folks , the very thought of it, I have to go to the loo.

Jim Sigs1
A very sexy picture of Cristina which probably helped her to secure the presidency. Many Argentinians regarded her as a reincarnation of Saint Evita, Peron's second wife. Cristina was also a disciple in the former Peronista party. Definitely there was a precedent for succession. Juan Peron married his 3rd wife, Isabel Martinez a.k.a Cha Cha and she became his Vice President. When he died in office she became president from 1974-76.
But you lost me about the horrible thought of The Iron Lady dying in office. Is there something more? But then I'm lost most of the time trying to follow you Brits in these forums.
If you are out of the lou get back to me on this.

Ritter,

Think about it, Cristina almost inherited her position as president due to her husband, the incumbant president dying in office. She certaivly would not have 'won' this position if she had been an unknown. Now thinking along the same lines when maggie was PM. If she had died in office that would have put her son into the frame - Mark T as PM. I don't think so., and remember he got lost in the desert and a rescue party sent out to find him - the dozy sod.

Jimsigs1
I think I get your drift; you are painting a hypothetical situation in the UK where Margaret's son, Mark takes over her role as PM on her death. I am not familiar with the life of Mark T but I will Google him later. I think that I have a better hypothetical scenario for you which could have happened in the UK ca 1937. King George V dies and he is succeeded by his eldest son who is to become King Edward VIII. Suppose that he decides to be coronated and does not abdicate. He was always portrayed as a weak personality and a known sympathizer for the Nazi party in Germany. We know from history that Churchill had to deal with a peace faction in the UK after the BEF was defeated in France. The world as we know it would have ceased to exist if Edward the VIII had caved with this peace faction.

Ritter,

You are probably right - Edward, afterwards Duke of Windsor was the odd ball in the Royal collection and appeared to be a Nazi sympathiser. Thank god we had Churchill at that time, who I believe to be one of the greatest Englishmen of all times.
