The last Vulcans I saw were at the 1977 RAF Silver Jubilee celebrations. As I was driving home they took off and flew over my head. Mighty.

The survivor is due to fly over Dublin on Sept 15th,along with a Catalina ,B-17, Hunter and about 30 other a/c. I will be there.

You're in for a treat there, Chemist.
Seeing that monster yesterday flying so low yesterday was, (an overworked word these days), awesome.

The Vulcan flying again it must have been a great sight.Apparently,it took a few years to get it back up to speck for flying.I wonder if they will need it in the future to carry out a few bombing runs after all,we don't have much in the way of aircraft due to all those cuts.

The Vulcan was due to fly at the Bournemouth air festival last week, but was grounded due to fuel leak. It did fly last year and was awesome.

Only flying example yes

The last airworthy Vulcan (XH558) has been restored to flying condition by the "Vulcan to the Sky Trust" after years of effort and fundraising. The first post-restoration flight, which lasted 34 minutes, took place on 18 October 2007.

The aircraft's airworthiness status was in peril as maintenance funding was in need before the end of February 2010. At the last moment an anonymous benefactor presented £458,000 to the foundation, ensuring its airworthiness for both its 50th birthday and the prospect of a flight performance for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games opening ceremony in London. It is currently based at Doncaster/Sheffield Robin Hood Airport, formerly RAF Finningley

Before the sighting last month, I'd only ever seen the Vulcan once before.
In the mid-sixties, we were firing a series of high angle shoots on Salisbury Plain when shooting was suspended while a Vulcan flew over, at low altitude. The plane was being chased by another museum piece, a Meteor. We were told that radar equipment was being tested.
Unlike my last sighting, where the Vulcan was camouflaged, high altitude bombers in those Cold War days were a uniform silver colour.

BAOR(27CIB)
Attention: GingerJim et al
Further to your interest in the legendary Lancaster bomber, the following pictures 1 to 3 below were taken during the recent reenactment of No. 617 Sqn Dambuster's attack in WW 2. These pictures are courtesy of hardration. Picture No 4 is of Lancaster No. BXFM 213 shown on pedestals at Sky Harbor Airport at Goderich on Lake Huron, Ontario. Owing to troublesome vandalism, the owners of the plane, Goderich Royal Canadian Legion Branch, donated the aircraft to the Restoration Workshop at the Museum at Hamilton, Ontario. Following ten years of very difficult restoration, the Lancaster was certified flyable and it has been at favorite at many airshows in Canada.

i am fortunate to live ten minutes away from the old raf manston , now manston airport , i see quite a lot of the lancaster , with the spitfire, hurricane, and me 109, plus the red arrows , they use manston as a base when they attend air shows in the south of england , its brilliant when margate has an air show ,i stand outside my bungalow and watch the spit, hurricane, and 109 in mock dogfights , while the lanc circles the area , mind you its not like the real thing that i used to see during the battle of britain from the kentish hopfields when i was a lad , the battle of britain film was good but not a patch on the real thing , ginger
