Steve,
Whilst surfing the net regarding No 94 British General Hospital Hamburg, I came across this web site.

http://www.specialcamp11.co.uk/Field%20Marshall%20Gerd%20von%20Rundstedt4.htm

In the notes about Field Marshal von Rundstedt. The 4 Generals were moved to Hamburg - Barmbeck 24 Sept 1948. I thought it was already closed! Maybe it just moved location?

Not sure it helps with your data collection?

Regards
Alan

Moin Alan

May 45 – 94 British General Hospital Hamburg-Rissen disbanded Dec 45
This was located to the west of Hamburg and Barmbeck is the north east of the city so clearly disbanded and re-designated as 94 British Military Hospital sometime afterwards

As recorded on BAOR Locations for Hamburg
BMH Hamburg was located on 180 Lesserstrasse. D-22049 this is North West of Barmbeck north of Wandsbeck where many barracks were located so clearly there were two BMH locations

May 45 – 9 British General Hospital Belsen Camp to Hamburg Jun 46 this could be the BMH Hamburg on Lesserstrasse

Thanks for the link...I do not have much time at the moment to continue the research with JPW into those early days of BAOR but will continue soon...

Best regards
Steve

Alan

Thanks for the link

Like Steve I have a number of high priority personal commitments at the moment so research into the early days of BAOR is on hold for the present, nonetheless some of the info on your link is very relevant to my particular interests

I believe BMH Hamburg was in Fuhlsbuttel in 1950 when I was serving at the District HQ in Medical Branch.

Gingadun

Welcome. Another puzzle to be sorted out. I am a proud old boy of King Alfred School Ploen

BMH Hamburg was our local hospital (we were 70 miles away). There is a debate going on on our school website as to the exact location. Majority vote is that it was in the Wansbek not Fuhlsbuttel area of Hamburg but we were only spotty teenagers at the time.
