| My second year of National Service in the RAF was in Germany, and towards the end of my time in 1959, roughly two months before I was due to be demobbed, I was sent on a week's visit to a religious training establishment in the leafy suburbs towards the south of Köln. I was sent by the unit's RAF chaplain, so I suppose it was official, and perhaps it was a "thank you" to me for playing the harmonium for his services. I can't recall any of the religious training, but I do remember how very hot it was on the rail journey to Köln. I made good use of the visit to get up the tower of the famous dom (cathedral). Here's a snap of the house and its garden. In addition to the "learning" we were taken on several excursions, including a visit to Bonn and Königswinter on the Rhein. Did anyone else get sent there? | |

| Nice photographs eMEs, Gordon that would be the RAChD Depot in Bagshot, they relocated to RAF Upavon when they became part of the AGC. Bagshot Park is now the home of our very own HRH Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex, The Queens Service Order (NZ), Coronation Medal, Silver and Golden Jubilee Medal, Canadian Forces Decoration, The NZ Commemorative Medal, The Most Noble Order of the Garter and Bath, The Order of Merit - Late Royal Marines and Bloody Good Bloke. Dunno what he does, probably a bit of gardening and bird watching. | |

| It seems that prior to the RC House in Köln - there was some religious instruction at a house in Bad Driburg!

By a Staff Reporter
Retreats are being held every Sunday afternoon for Catholic soldiers of B.A.O.R. at the Retreat House, Bad Driburg, in the British zone of Germany. The director, Army Chaplain Fr. J. G. Carney, of the Liverpool Archdiocese, conducts these one-day retreats which include dialogue Mass, hymn singing, prayers and instruction.

Steve has a complete ORBAT for 30 Corps for the immediate post war period including the various recreational facilities.
This shows, inter alia, that in Summer 1945 the Anglican Church House was in Deilingsen (near Alfeld) and the RC Retreat Centre at Mardorf Steinhuder Meer.
Similarly my researches show that the 8 Corps Anglican equivalent was in the village of Preetz to the south east of Kiel though I have yet to locate the RC equivalent and 1 Corps District is a low priority for both of us.
In late 1946 with the very significant reduction in troop numbers these would have been reduced to one each for the Established Church and another for the RC.
Elsewhere on this site various contributors have posted memories of their time on courses at Church House Wuppetal, the RC Retreat Centre Cologne and the ecumenical Church House Lubbecke.
