Right gents..Regimental Ties

I was at a function last night and was asked by a high ranking police officer if i was wearing an American forces tie. After putting him in the picture that it was a R. Sigs tie, he said why are the stripes running the way they do,on most British ties the stripes run the other way.I could not answer the question..Can any of you?

I have done a bit of research on ties in general and several theories have come to light, but none explain why the R.Sigs stripes run from right to left

Lots of brownie points on offer for the correct answer.Double points if it comes from a RA member Laughing

I've heard it all now, first we get His Excellency The Government Chief Whip being stopped from innocently departing a very important conference at Downing Street on his bicycle and now we have an ex- serviceman (albeit R Sigs) being asked by a high ranking police officer if he is wearing an American forces tie!! What is this ******** country coming to when innocent members of the ********* public can't *********** go about their ********** business without being ********* stopped by the ********** busys! Harumph.

To answer your question - Ich hab' keine ahnung!!

Looking through the various regimental ties in the Oliver Bainbridge website there are a few ties that are like the Royal Signals tie eg; the stripes go from left to right. My former regiment has three regimental ties.

I can't post the site in question as I have been instructed that I must wait a wee while in order to do so.Sorry. No

I should be up in Scotland for the referendum so will hold you to that! How will I recognise you - will you be wearing a R Signals tie?

I read today that the EU are looking at stopping Salmond introducing minimum pricing for alcohol. I suspect that will annoy Cameron since he has plans to introduce it for England as well, bless him. However, Salmond cant really criticise the EU can he, lets face it if he gets independence (Which is doubtfull) he will be forced to adopt the €uro and forever more will be Barrosso's bitch. For an intelligent man Salmond seems remarkably thick.

There was a Pub off the Strand (up from the Union Jack Club) which had hundreds of Regimental ties. It also served as a recruiting ground for jobs abroad. About 1967.

I only ever spent one night at the UJ club, would have been...jesus, more than 30 years ago now. I couldn't quite manage the steps, after a few attempts decided to get my head down. I was woken by a someone from the RCT who helped me indoors. I seem to remember he was on leave from Bunde, why I should remember that is a bit of a mystery but there yer go!

Returning from a course and finding ourselves faced with a long weekend in transit accomodation, somebody suggested we go "up the smoke" and stay in the UJ. We were all in favour 'til someone else remembered that we paid a day's pay a year towards the RA Central Mess. Off to Woolwich we went, a bit far out of town but comfortable and the drink was cheap !
