Just watched the opening battle scene in "Gladiator" again.
Usual stuff, depraved nobility speak with "English" accents, tough guys with Yank.
I love the way a war chant from "Zulu" was grafted onto the Teutonic horde's opening number.
Funny how the Roman footsloggers are wearing Parliamentarian "lobster tail" helmets, as per the English Civil War.

Hollywood don't bother much with reality, do they ?

I notice a remake of "The Dambusters" is being made. Gibson's dog is to be renamed "Digger", I bet they never consulted the dog !

To paraphrase, (am I right there ? ), "Blazing Saddles", Hey, folks ! ,Guy Gibson's got a new dog, it's called "Ni" !

Gingerjim, you don't reveal your age or location, (typical !) but we had that song when I was a mere stripling too, 'twas not considered offensive, in days of yore.

Lot's of things have changed, look how close Enid Blyton was, in her early Noddy books it was always the Gollywogs causing trouble (or maybe it was just the people that Noddy hung around with)

I had an old Great Aunt wot lived in Portrush, she had a cat that shared a name with Guy Gibsons' dog. It was a joy to behold when she opened the door at Tea time and called the cats' name 3 times! Embarassed

It wasn't Roger, it was Gingerjim...........

But in the same vein, I am irritated by the less fortunate, the black lads ( with whom I've no gripe compared with some), other incomers and those with malajusted habits who get so much favourable publicity that it seems that the "normal" are out of line, and all the rest who determine and dictate which terminology we must use when referring to their persons. There are several more offensive terms we could use in we wished to be malicious.

Dammit, it's OUR language, we've used it for yonks. Just wait until the Young Pretender north of the border gets his way and "Jocks" becomes forbidden. To say, Paddies, Taffies, Frogs, Krauts, etc., etc. will be unacceptable.

It's a queer way of going on.......... Sorry, can't say that. Delete "queer" insert "odd".
