What do you think? During my service our regiment was a mixture of all the countries of Great Britain, and we got along fine. I now see this man Slmons creating tensions between our two nations that have lived and fought together for more than 300 years. did He ever serve in the GREAT British army?

Wrote this some 20 plus years ago  -  a little prophetic maybe  - and where is the Stone of Scone.
In Haggis Land -  see I warned you.

The Bonny Princes Legacy

Do you hear the drums a beating across the highland glen,
as the Red Coats they are searching for the Bonny Prince's men.
The lowland traitor Campbell rules in Edinburgh's Castle keep,
while the widows and the children of slain highland warriors weep.

The Macintosh and Fraser, McKinnon and Loch Neil,
fell in countless thousands, pinned by English steel.
Culloden was a spectacle the like not to be repeated,
as the ragged, hungry highlander's broke, and their Bonny Prince retreated.

Back across the sea the Stuart princeling fled,
and left his highland followers to be ruled by English red.
Thus ended the rebellion of the clans and their miss placed trust,
as Bonny Prince Charlie took their gold, and their claymores turned to rust.

But with James as King peace returned, and both kingdoms were united,
as Highlander and Red Coat merged, and all past wrongs were righted,
they fought alone or side by side across the known worlds face,
against all odds they held their own, and neither found disgrace.
And never shall the Kingdoms split again to stand alone,
as each succeeding Monarch sits, atop the Stone of Scone.

Ah, well, if Wee Eck (Alex Salmon), the SNP et al, get their way, it will take several years of horse-trading, negotiations, behind 'closed-doors' arm-twisting to settle things to both party's satisfaction.

Mr Salmon has stated that he wants an independent Scotland to have it's own air force, navy and army of sorts. An army (Militia) of around 3,000 to 3,500 soldiers of all ranks. An air force of a 3 or 4 fast jests and smaller aircraft, possibly like the Irish Republic Armed Forces, and several naval patrol boats for inshore, fisheries protection and ability to 'project' some form of coastal protection.

Scottish Regiments and soldier may have a choice of who tos erve with - but everything is up in the air at the moment. "Castles in the Sky", as there is a long hard road for negations before those who are expecting "Free Beer Tomorrow", and "Free Drugs For Everyone" are disappointed to find out in the coming years that not really much will change. If "YES" wins, then there will be changes - but not in the great earth shaking ways that some might expect.

In my opinion, for what it is worth, many of the changes will be cosmetic, and things will continue much the same as they are. (Deep Fried Battered mars Bars will still be sold, along with Haggis and chips) affraid Shocked .. and the drunken Scotsman will still drink themselves into oblivion with 'Special Brew' and Bottles of Buckie.

(I have to admit that I come from a Scottish background, but neither oppose nor support the independence question. I'll just sit on the 'political fence' and watch the 'too-ing' and 'fro-ing' of politicians and others, promising the earth, moon and stars if people will "Vote for them!" santa

I too am intrigued to know how the Scots Militia Homeland Defence will work out in practise based on a Brigade Group of three Regular Infantry Battalions (more cuts therefore than any Westminster Government would have dared impose), wonder how Defence of the Oil Rigs will be carried out with no Commachio Company RM?

I also think it will probably be modelled on the Irish Defence Force

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defence_Forces_(Ireland)

It has an Army of 8,500 with 4,000 reserves.

It has an Air Corps but no Air Force, and a very small navy.

Mike

Noted but if published info is correct a permanent force of 3,500 Regulars will constitute the entire regular army on Independence Day
