I think the Yanks get medals a bit like those camper-van people collect badges - one for every place they've been to.
HOWS ABOUT THAT AS AN IDEA FOR A PETITION - A MEDAL FOR EVERY BARRACKS YOU'VE BEEN TO!!!!
As an afterthought -- I wonder who on here would have the most. Let's have some nominations.

That would put me at 14 medals and a few bars, not the bars that sell beer sadly.

14 - that's about the number the average Yank has on his chest which seems to bear out my theory as to how and why they get them!
You can't have a medal for every bar you visited, Eric - there just isn't enough metal in this world!

My first time in Hong Kong 1969, The American 7th fleet who had been off the coast of Vietnam sailed into HK on R&R, a group of marines wondered in to the China Fleet Club, after the usual exchange of plesantries we all settled down to good chinwag, any way it turned out that the Top sgt with about 30 or so years in only needed the CMH for a full set, looking at all his ribons i think you could believe him.
