PostSubject: The NAAFI KIEL CLUB in RENDSBURG on the KIEL CANAL   23/12/2013, 20:14

The NAAFI KIEL CLUB in RENDSBURG is well remembered by many Soldiers of the BAOR. From 1945 until 1948 all Troops who past Rendsburg coming from Hamburg going to Flensburg or Denmark stopped at this famous NAAFI. I weas 11 years of age at that time and could speak english, Army English !. I looked after the Bedfords and Thornycrafts while the lads had a coopatea. I managed to bring home nice Naafi cakes, a few Cigarettes for my Dad and other nice things for my family. Today Im still thankful t these lads. Taffis Paddys, and Jocks and Tommies. Now Im 78 and still remember well. I have not forgotten.Believe it or not, Im still in contact with a few , all in the age about 90. Many came here to revisit Rendsburg. In the Town Museum I have opend a Section "Time of Occupation, with all Unit s woich where stationed here. I wish all who are still arround, from BAOR Schleswig Holstein A very happy Christmas and all the best of health, Happynes and Harmony for the new Year 2014.. Heinz Johannsen (Jimmy) 0049 4331 448855

For the benefit of newcomers, Heinz/Kleiner Jimmy is a longstanding contributor who has posted his unique personal memories of the British Army in Rendsburg in the immediate post war period elsewhere on this site. He has also been extremely helpful to Steve and I in our ongoing quest for information on the British Army in Schleswig Holstein in both seeking out new sources and auditing, where appropriate, existing information

My only memory of Kiel is the yacht club Still have my little pale blue BKYC lapel badge depicting Britania, bit like a tiny pennant (As below) Spent a week or maybe two, cant quite remember now, sailing around the Islands great times. This would have been in...1980 probably.
