PSA - Property Services Agency. There is a hole in the road and the PSA are looking in to it. They were later "Privatised" after which every job they did cost twice as much as before!

TEWT........... Tactical Exercise Without Troops.
Sometimes a senior ranks jolly and an excuse to swan round the countryside in a Landrover and meet up in a pub for refreshment, code named "Debriefing".

Finding the pub could be excused as being a good test of map reading skills.

Some clever Civil Servant tried to change this to-

Why didn't that work?

I knew that !  But if you are going to get serious, there's
NORWICH .......  ' Nickers Off Ready When I Come Home
or
CHINA............    Bet you can't guess what they were
                       Hunting In North Africa.

And for the many kids who don't know what these were all about, it goes back
to WW2.  Not something added to the backs of envelopes containing letters from love-lorn squaddies, but advice on where they were being posted when it was forbidden to divulge any such information.  When all outgoing mail was censored and any sensitive content was obliterated, any such phrases were a pre-arranged code penned in a last paragraph with the intention of fooling whoever was on censor duty.

And another useless bit of advice from the same era.......  Censors were said to use a thick blue line to cross things out.  In more moral times, when cuss words were frowned upon,  comedians & the like could use " Blue pencil " as a euphemism to get a laugh.....  eg.  " Not Bluepencil likely !"  That comes up in old films on occasion.

So there !  Here endeth today's sermon.

BEM.......... Bread  Eating  Medal

I think this might have come up previously on a different thread, but it's worth repeating for anyone who disputes why the BEM is known as the Rooti.  The accepted origin goes back to India & the Raj. "Rooti " is "bread"  in the local lingo, anyone who was awarded a BEM had been in khaki for a fair whack and,
accordingly, he had eaten a goodly portion of the King's Bread.

Similar derivation ( or root ! ) when you think about it ......i.e long service, many slices of crusty white stuff consumed........, but I think you must agree that the
BEM, with the Bread Eating Medal tag, is the more logical one of the two. On that
basis it is likely to have come first, even if the LS & GC recipients jumped on the wagon & claimed the same name for their gong as the one the rarer medal was known by.
