Hello people!
I've looked, but I can't find any reference to a "Barracks" which I (and hundreds of others) served in:
FRANCE, LARZAC (La Cavalerie) between 1963 and up to the French leaving NATO in 1967!
I've been able to find some photos by using Google, and I now live in France (for the last 15 years) and I go about once a year to Larzac!
I also retraced ALL my Army steps, as a Civilian between 1970 and now!
I've lived and worked, where I was stationed at Detmold, Berlin, Wertach in Allgau, France, and a few others!
Sometimes as a civilian for the Army, sometimes simply as a Civilian!
Any news from any others would be interesting!

Give me a buzz in 4 years time (if I'm still alive!) I'm living at a place called VAUVERT in the Dept of the Gard (30) about 25 miles from Montpellier!
I'm in the phonebook for the GARD ( France- 0033466775071)
Let me know if I can give you a hand with the Admin problems here in France!
Here is the address of an MSN Group, based at Beziers, for Ex-pats living in Southern France:
BritsaroundBeziers@groups.msn.com (if you become a free member, you could profit from tips and advice! Or just do a "Google" search for "BritsaroundBeziers or MSN Groups to pay a visit to this group) I'm to be found under the alias of "iwmpop".
For an insight to living in France, you could visit my Website at:
http://www.webspawner.com/users/mrlemarquis/index.html
which will give you a lot of other links to things here in France
Bye for now!

Hello iwmpop,

Welcome to the Forum, and the main site I hope.

Reference your query about Larzac, technically the site is dedicated to B.A.O.R. and its history and includes the Benelux countries because of their contribution, in both movement of troops before air trooping and in the supply and re-supply of the forces in Germany.

That said, a lot of personnel were in Larzac at one time or another over the years (some more than others - not me though, never saw the place).
If you have photographs, details, dates, memories, unit/regiment names, etc., why not post them on the Forum?

It could be that they could also be put on the "B.A.O.R. Various" page of the main site. I will ask Philip next time I e-mail him.

Paul.

OK!
So far as photos are concerned, I've only got some real faded and of not much use style photos, but I could send the one or other I've found on Web searches!
I still go back, not every year, but the last time I was there (it's about an hours drive from me) the last link (an elderly lady, ex patrone of the "Hotel du Larzac" where we all went to get ill from litres of red wine at 1FF the litre) had just passed away!
In the past, she had always dragged out her proud collection of dusty old photos of "her Briteesh" soldiers, and always muttered something about "bloody de Gaulle" because he took France out of the NATO, which forced us out of France, and lost her a lot of clients!
At the time of my last visit, it occurred to me to ask her familly if I could "borrow" her old photos, to scan and keep, but in view of the recent decease, I didn't dare!
When I've figured out how to send photos, I'll let you know!
