PostSubject: Philips Barracks Hamburg 1947 to 1949   29/12/2018, 22:09

Good Evening

I am trying to find anyone who was stationed in Philips Barracks in Hamburg during 1947 to 1949, for my grandfather John (Ernest) Hampshire.

Many thanks

Hubert

Hi John,

Welcome to the site.

Not sure we have any members who will have served in that time era. However, we have a few members who will be able to give more information about the barracks in Hamburg.

Initial research indicates Philips Barrack were occupied by the Royal Signals. Is it possible that he  was in the Royal Signals?

Regards
Alan

Maybe this photo might bring back some memories?

John

Welcome indeed

As my good friend Alan says though we have had the occasional Hamburg related query in the past we have no regulars

Can you confirm which unit your grandfather was posted to whilst in Hamburg?

Squadron Sergeant Major: WOII F Barrett to Apr 47 then WOII Davis to Oct 47
2 Echelon Troop
132 Construction Troop
67 Cipher Troop
77 Despatch Rider Troop
Line Troop

early 48 – the Signal Office moves from Standard House to Uxbridge Barracks formally Luftgau Kaserne Blankenese and accommodation from Klopstockstrasse to Philips Barracks – squadron to Uxbridge Barracks Nov 48

also a company of 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade (Prince Consort’s Own) of 4th Armoured Brigade attached Hamburg District

For the moment my BAOR records are only up to the end of 1948 study

Best of luck with your research

Good evening everyone and happy New Year!

Thank you so much for all your replies. I'm going to collate all the info I can find and print it out for grandad. We spent quite a lot of time over Christmas talking about the time he spent in Hamburg.

I can confirm that he was in Hamburg District Signal Squadron.

Regards

Hubert
