First of all hello all!

Reason to drop by here is my interest in the Land Rover Ambulances used in the Rhine Army. I own a Series 2a (1970) which I try to complete historically with all the information I can find. So I will read a lot of topics here, post a question here and there and send the odd PM if I feel to.

Cheers, Ronald

Always found these landrovers top heavy.Being a former MT man,I would never attempt to blue light at high speed simply because of this.

Not only were they very top heavy but they were very claustrophobic for casualties. When used as a staff vehicle we only had two of us at a time in them!!!

Had plenty of these in the Field Ambulance I served in and their main use seemed to be as beds when on exercise as nobody liked driving them due to their top heaviness.

Hi Chris

Posted in 1972 and left 1975

As REME I was the incumbent unit electrician for the time I was there

Still maintain it was one of the best units I was ever posted to.

Les

Hello Les, Yep same time as me. Recognise the name now.Same time as Yorkie, Budgie B, Pete Thurgood and others. It was THE best posting of my career. Loved the unit, personalities and everything about the place. Went back for another tour later and was still well chuffed. If I had been able to stay with one posting it would have been that one.

Have to agree Chris it definitely was the best posting ever. Something to do with the fact that all ranks up ad down the chain of command seemed to get on with each other very well. Really do wish I could have stayed but REME records ignored my request to stay and posted me to 20 Bde HQ & Sigs Sqn in Detmold instead

Thanks for your remarks on the post I started, so far! Nice to read those experiences.

Anyone know any photo material from the period they served? Maybe online, archived-databases or in case you know of some in a private photo book I am more than happy to learn more.

Thanks, Ronald
