Can you give me some info on what was known as 44 Fd Spt Sqd. I seem to find this topic a bit hard
to trace and especially anyone with any connections. I was there between 1968 at Allenbroke Bks in
Paderborne and shortly afterwards the reg was split up when we moved to Hameln. Anyone with
any memories. Regards Jim Donaldson

Short history of 44 Field Support Squadron RE

44 Field Park Squadron formed Devizes Mar 50 part of 27 Field Engineer Regiment command HQRE 6 Armoured Division to St Georges Barracks Minden Jan 52 6 Armoured Division disbanded Aug 57

from 1958
Field Engineer Regiments were disbanded Regimental HQs were absorbed into CRE divisional staff each Brigade Group was given its own field squadron and field park squadrons became divisional troops

HQRE 4 Division – Wentworth Barracks Herford consisted of and all in Allenbroke Barracks Paderborn
5 Field Squadron (20 Armoured Brigade)
25 Field Squadron (4 Guards Brigade)
44 Field Park (Support from Jan 68) Squadron

from 1969
26 Engineer Regiment (4 Guards Brigade) formed including 5 & 25 Field Squadron in Allenbroke Barracks Paderborn moved to Corunna Barracks Iserlohn Nov 70

35 Engineer Regiment (20 Armoured Brigade) formed including 44 Field Support Squadron to Gordon Barracks Hameln
44 Field Support Squadron in Allenbroke Barracks Paderborn moved to Bindon Barracks Hameln Nov 70

35 Engineer Regiment to East Belfast Infantry Role Nov 72 to Mar 73

35 Engr Regt renamed 4 Armoured Division Regiment Jan 78 then back to 35 Engineer Regiment in 1981

4 Armoured Division disbanded the regiment to 1 (UK) Armoured Division in 1993

35 Engineer Regiment moved to Barker Barracks in 1999
44 Field Support Squadron is now known as 44 HQ & Support Squadron the regiment is due to move to UK Perham Down in 2017
