Hi Jerry,

I'm german and I live 7 km in the south of Hameln! 3 km far away from Ohr Park! You know..?

I'm a child of the Cold war and so I'm very interested in the story of all British troops based at Hameln!

In honour of all British units of Hameln I built a homepage. The site isn't complete but I still working on it!

Now I read you were in Hameln... did you have any information for me and my homepage? Please contact me! Thy a lot!

I know this thread is quite old but I wonder if you are still interested in gathering information. I was in Hameln, 35 Squadron RCT from 1968 to 1970

Hi Jerry/ I was a founder member of 10 coy rasc in 1962. It was formed at bielderfeld
because the barracks at Hamelin was not avail for another 2 weeks. We did not have any trns of our own until we took over the accomadation in Bindon bks. The company had to travel to munchengladbach by train to draw our trs requirments, AEC 10 tonners, Bedford RL
m/cycles, pontoon trailers, and a champ trailer. you dont give a surname.

Hi Jerry/ thanks for your speedy rep;y. we missed one another by two months, I left
Bindon bks in April 64 to do a pre demob course in Oxford. All my military kit was handed
into 10 coy stores with the exception of all my uniforms and boots. you say you went to c
platoon may be you could remember a few of my section. Dicky Hyland, Tich Caulthart,
L/cpl Lenny Leonard just to name a few. Was Cpl Bill Rimmer still in c ptn? Cpl Ken crosswaite. Capt Adams was the trns captain, what a useless article he was. The next waste
of space was major Neave. Do you remember the name of our csm at 10 coy because there
was a real gent,he was an Irishman and had a brother in 125 coy, he was a corporal
will explain at a later date what happened to the uniforms and boots.

Oh happy days. 1966-1968 I often worked with the RCT drivers of 40 Sqn. Crackin' bunch of grafters. When building a heavy ferry or a pontoon bridge the first vehicle would arrive at the water's edge. Hopefully our Recce Sgt had chosen firm ground with enough space and easy access. We would launch the pontoons off the first vehicle and then ask him to turn his vehicle around and stay on site to help push the rest of the kit into the water as it was delivered and assembled. All his colleagues could pass through and go on to retire to a harbour area and cam up, but our lead driver would stay on site right through the night.
By using the one driver in this way it saved overall build time and we were able to establish a good working rapport with him. I don't know if any of these drivers knew what they were letting themselves in for when they drove the lead vehicle, Very Happy

I don't think anyone has a bad word to say about "Run Away Someone's Coming".

We had drivers from 7 Sqn RCT with us in Ireland in '72, (total lunatics, of course).
Later in the 70s I was dragooned into teaching drivers from the same squadron how to drive Saracen.

Nice bunch of blokes.

Hi Bob
The only name there that rings a very old Bell is Ken Crosswaite.
OC was Major Hook. I think the CSM you mean, certainly was a gent, I cant think of his name, but I met up with him in 1971 at Buller Bks. He was a Capt in Buller running the continuation wing.
The Next
Sgt Major was Bill Baumont.

A fair amount of my service was spent attached to RASC/RCT Units. 58 to 62 - 112 Coy RASC/12 Coy RCT, 72 to 74 - 617 Tk Tptr Sqn RCT, 77 to 79 - 4 Div Regt RCT, and during 79 to 81 was heavily involved with 27 Regt RCT. Mostly very good memories, only one poor CO who was totally unpredictable - terrible temper.
