Hi dandc welcome from another 'old geezer', this is a great site and the first thing I do every morning after reading my 'e' mails is log on to see what I have missed .. being on the West Coast of Canada I'm running 8 hours behind of most of the guys.

hi len,like isaid ifound this site by accident,iwas looking up hobart bks in detmold, they dont exist anymore,the quaters my wife and i lived in are now full of russian immigrants,so i looked at other places, every where is the same either pulled down or converted into posh flats,i dont like what they have done.

I was in Detmold as well and lived on Hakedahl. Went for a visit in 1992 and although still going, the atmosphere was horrible because no one knew what was going to happen.

I've seen the photo's since and it seems such a waste now. That's progress I suppose?

I'm off to see some soldiers now at the Liverpool Military show. Wonder if they will all look far too young like coppers?

by your age we could have been on the hak at the same time,i lived in 18/2 hagen strasse from 1971 to 1974, and 14/4[?] londoner strasse from 1979 to 1982, met some good friends during those times.

dandc, I guess you have looked up the Locations Section on this site, there are some photo's of Hobart Barracks there ..

yes i have seen the locations and i dont like what the germans have done, but there again its there history they are destroying, i remember some good time in those bks, and my eldest son was born in BMH hanover in 1971.

Just missed you both times. I went there in 1975 and left at the end of 1977 when 20 Armd Bde was disbanded. Lived in Poggenpohl in the big flats. Lots of lovely cockroaches. Nice!
