PostSubject: Parade (Early 60s)   12/10/2009, 08:11

Reading about the queens jubilee parade 1977 brought back memories of a similar parade held in the early 60s (62 - 65).It was also held at Sennelager with the queen in attendance..
What the occasion was escapes me.... Embarassed Any takers???

I had a look about to see if I could find anything, but nothing definite shows up at present.

There is a photograph of a parade, but it is argued that it may, or may not, have been in Sennelager.

Have a look at this page:-

http://www.canadianguards.ca/parade.htm

Could the parade you mention have been the arrival of the Canadians, or possibly the departure of the Danes or Norwegians??

Paul.

Nothing there Paul..It was definately a British Army review.I`ll send out a few e-mails and see what arrives

Gordon

Found this on a long disbanded site.

See"Centurions". for new photograph. This was
taken at a huge parade in front of HM Queen Elizabeth
on Sennelager airstrip. The year is circa 1964/65.

Thats a blast from the past,I was there with 1R.Hamps,forgotten about it till now.
I remember the weather was warm and we were fed and watered from a series of tents set up next to the coach/lorry park,I expect it was also the forming up point for the parade.

1965 was a state visit by the Queen, she came to Soest for about two hours, big parade at Ft York, drive through town including married quarters and back on train. My landlord was the burgermeister of Wamel and got an invite, they had never seen a queen before and just loved it. Klara his wife was still talking about it when I went back in 1969
