| WOW.... Bedlock your avatar picture took me back to Depot training at the Canadian Guards Depot. CO's inspection Fri. morning. Worse part was finding some place to hide your dirty laundry. Weren't suppose to have dirty laundry in your laundry box. Very typical officer infantry thinking. |

| Does anyone remember the major exercises "Agility 1 & 2" in 1949 ! This was before NATO and was a forerunner to its' formation ! I was serving in the 1st Batt. The Worcestershire Regiment, Support Coy. and we had just moved from Berlin while the Airlift was still in operation. |

| I did an ex in summer of 1975, it was supposed to last three weeks, on day four my boss [ DADEME] woke me up to tell me that we had been 'nuked' and were dead. Just as well, it was my last ex, I was out of the army 2 months later. |

| Nuked ? Brings back memories..When i was at rear corps we had to take over main corps coms when they were nuked..Alas they played it to the limit and when the rear corps commander wanted to end ex he couldn`t get his boss at main...lots of brownie points for us for giving him access to an engineering line..
And thanks from the warrier corps who could go home out of the cold. |

| Hi Brum,Our Battalion got back to England in March 50,they then sailed for Malaya May 50 on a 3year tour. There were many encounters with the MRLA during jungle search patrols which were done under the most appalling conditions, and we lost 23 men on this tour (mostly NS men who performed brilliantly). I have tried to locate many of my old mates recently but have only found one still living so far, in Canada. What a great pity that IT wasn't available sooner,it is much easier now to maintain contact with old buddies...Cheers Bro ! |

| Circa 1955 I suffered my first exercise in Germany. Named Cold Comfort, and it was the coldest I had ever been in my 18 years. Sitting freezing in the back of a wireless vehicle in a wood God knows where was certainly not my idea of comfort! I could see smoke rising from somewhere and first chance I had I investigated. I came upon a little cottage, and I don't remember how it came about but I was invited in by two ladies, mother and daughter as far as I could make out, and given a bowl of some sort of broth. I spoke no German (having been but a couple of weeks n the country) and they had not a word of English, but we all got along famously nevertheless.....until the daughter's husband arrived home somewhat unexpectedly. Uhoh, time to go! I buggered off sharpish and left them all having what sounded like a massive row. But I was no longer freezing cold and was decidedly more comfortable! |
