PostSubject: Prix Leclerc   25/1/2010, 01:50

Back in 1970, my unit was chosen to represent BAOR in the NATO competition known as Prix Leclerc, and stsged at Sennelager. Since then I've not heard much said of this competition. Is it still in existence.? In 1970 the finals was contested by the Brits (2 Coldstream Guards), US Army, Canadian Army and the Bundeswehr. The Canadian Army, if my memory serves me right were overall winners, with the Brits coming third.
Everyone in the unit was given a chance to be on the team regardless of cap badge. A 5-mile run to start the ball rolling ,eliminated most of us.

I remember it going on but never joined in. Wasn't it a Canadian-inspired competition ? I'm surprised they found a Brit unit to enter in 1970 with all the Op BANNER crap going on.

bazza,Funny you should say that, but the members of the team had to join us in Belfast a few weeks after we began our Op Banner tour. I believe that they also missed out on the pre-tour training.
