| NAAFI are looking for people to serve in Afghanistan for six months then six months somewhere else on a rotation basis. Anyone up for it?
Reminds me of my brother in law in the sixties. Yanks were looking for civvy drivers to ferry ammunition and supplies in Vietnam. He said he could make a grand a month (lot of money then) providing he survived. Didn't go for it in the end.
Might give this one a miss as I am old and more importantly a coward.
Just to add that the lads and lasses out there have my utmost respect and I am in no way taking the piss.

Probably not thinking about it. NAAFI staff never got the GSM! NAAFI personnel aboard ships in the Falklands war were reported to have fired machine guns at aircraft. I think at least one was given a medal for it but it does beg the question was he in breach of the Geneva convention? Could the Argies have legally shot him if caught? Civvy after all!

| Most of NAAFI deployed on ships are uniformed 'Naval Canteen Services' (NCS) and are classed as reservists, Army Deployed NAAFI are in the TA, and called the 'Expeditionary Force Institute' (EFI) and uniformed. Most are NAAFI employees and a few are indeed ex-services, and EFI(TA) rank as minimum as Corporal's. Both these organisations do indeed deploy in active areas and earn operational medals. NAAFI Civilians only man the rear areas such as Kandahar Air Base, with EFI manning Camp Bastion and the Forward Operating Bases (FOB's) http://www.naafi.co.uk/People+profiles.php - Quote :
- NAAFI employees are uniquely structured to support its purpose, with 3 dedicated and professional groups of staff:
148 Squadron, Expeditionary Force Institutes, Royal Logistic Corps, (EFI). Managed by NAAFI; EFI are unique. Serving in uniform, EFI staff work alongside Forces personnel on deployment, where civilian contractors are not usually authorised to go.
Naval Canteen Services (NCS) Also managed by NAAFI, NCS is an organisation dedicated to serving side by side with Forces personnel on Royal Navy ships around the world, again where civilian contractors are not usually authorised to go.
NAAFI civilians The majority of these are dependants of Armed Forces personnel, and support permanent services in areas such as Germany, Northern Ireland and The Falkland Islands, many of whom volunteer for deployment when required. NAAFI/EFI Money Tokens (POG's) used in Shops & Canteens in Afghanistan _________________ Sua Tela Tonanti
