Welcome to the Forum Mazza200, why don't you join our happy band. There isn't many of us, so the more the merrier. As to your question, where would Hertzberg be close to in relation to major towns or training areas? Have you taken a look at the locations in the main site? Have a look at this location, I believe that Gottingen is reasonably close:- http://baor-locations.com/borderbks.aspxYou didn't give any time frame as to when they met. Remember that many Regiments were only in place temporarily at the end of WW2, some for a matter of weeks only. If you have any more details, no matter small, post them and who knows what might turn up! Paul.

Both Goslar and Gottingen are near Hertzberg am Hartz. They married in 1946 and I believe Don went back to England and arranged the wedding straight away. Hilda worked in a canteen and according to her family she told the local men off for jeering at Don when he was distributing water.

Do you have a copy of the marriage certificate for your in-laws? If so, what does it say for the occupation and place of residence of the Groom? What does it give for the place of residence for the Bride? Where were they married? Where else have you tried for information? Paul.

In 1946 a Ski Centre was opened for R & R for the troops so he may not have been actually stationed there.
