PostSubject: John Henry Oakes   Sun May 11, 2008 12:01 pm

Looking for more information relating to my uncle, John Henry Oakes who was in Munster between 1946 and 1948. He was killed in a road accident in July of 1948, aged 20. I believe he was an ambulance driver.

I have his Army history papers from Glasgow, but I wanted to hear from any colleagues or anyone who might have just a snippet of information. Anything appreciated.

Hello Deb66, and welcome to the Forum.

Do you have any other information about John Henry Oakes?

What details have you gleaned from his Army Records? Does it give his units, etc?

Any information, no matter how little it may seem, can be useful.

Paul.

Hi

There is quite a lot of information in the records from Glasgow. He enlisted in August 1945, but it was deferred until September 20th 1945 for some reason, which i don't know. There's a lot of information, which I don't really understand, for instance, on his sign up card it states "No 3 drg" and then another entry states "2 hold btn", then "drafts RBHMM", and another "129 fld amb 23", its all so confusing.

I have his casualty card, sign up papers, statement of services and so much more, but what I really want to find is anyone that served with him, anyone that was with him who survived the accident, or just anyone that met him.
