Osnabruck Garrison closing Down.

I'm sad to hear that, I wonder what will happen to the MQ's in Kleine Moscau, Kliene london and dodesheide.

They all get handed over to the German Land Agency Jim, same as the camps.

i do hope someone can get some upto date photos,a lot of recent history is just dissapearing before our eyes.

it looks like a ghost town,but very well kept,i have just been looking at some pics of hobart bks detmold,god what a state.

I never served in 'Osnatraz' as such, but my Coy HQ was there (I was in the Det down in Minden) and I hated going up there. We only went up to Osnabruck for two reasons. One, you were in the sh*t. Two, the Coy HQ and Platoons were having a piss up and we were covering their duties, an act which was never reciprocated. Lots of folks that I do know who served there were quite saddened by its closure. Latest 'rumour' is that the MoD is considering the closure of a Bde, either 7 (Hohne) or 20 (Paderborn). I have it on good authority that the Germans in Paderborn have been told that 20 are staying for a wee while yet, so if the rumour is true, looks like Hohne will be shutting up shop. Don't think that many will shed as many tears for Hohne as they did for Osnabruck. On a good note it look like Munster is going to be given a new lease of life when JHQ shuts down for good in 2013 (ish).

They can close Hohne for me, miserable place.
The only location that was even more bleak and dismal was Fallingbostel !

Jim , when I went back for a visit in 2007 most of Dodesheide was empty except for a couple of blocks at the bottom of Schleisischer Strasse where it meets Mecklenburger Strasse. The houses on Ellerstrasse were occupied .Belm was empty , there were still people in Lotte but as for Kleine Moscow/London I haven't a clue. The Sedan Strassse NAAFI looked as if it had been shut for some time and the SSVC place next door ( beside the NAAFI car park) was gone, knocked down.
It was a quick visit as we were on our way to the Hook to catch the ferry back but I can confirm that Jim Blakes Schnelly was as good as I remembered. We were going back next year but it looks like it'll be 2012 before we get back again .
When I think back to its heyday in the 70s/80s it was like a ghost town.............so sad to see.

It was the '60's when we were there Bob, we lived in Kleine Moscau and dad worked in Quebec Bks.

Steve, those photo's of Quebec made me nostalgic mate. I don't recognise any specific building though. LOL, they all looked the same.

I've seen those photo's of Hobart, such a shame.

My mum and dad had a lovely MQ in Kleine Moscow

All the MQ in Dodeshiede and Kliene Moscow have been rented out to the Germans in the last 6 months the dodesheide flats are 350 Euro per month plus electrice the moscow houses sold with a clause they are to be maintained to a certain standard but as they were all taken we could not get any more details.(watch this space), my son lives at Wallenhorst and has a mate on the waiting list for one.

Do you remember the sit down strike by the Lancashire Fusaliars over the food in the cook house, I was in Prestatyn barracks at the timewith the Field Ambulance, we were sent to sit out side the gates with the RMP in case of problems.
