Peterborough Barracks Gluckstadt

I recently found that the following link contains information on the unit that occupied the barracks at Gluckstadt from 1946 until 1950: http://www.birgelenvets.org/webpages/history.aspx

Page under construction...needs more work I have recently moved to the Cuxhaven Peninsular and have taken the ferry to Gluckstadt and found two barracks...so on the list of much to check out

thank you for the lead/info, the site is a mine of relevent info which we have tapped into before

earlier researches have indicated that 1RTR were the first occupants of the barracks and they did a double tour (with a break in Berlin) when they were part of 22 Armoured Brigade of 7 Armoured Division.

The most important question ,still to be answered is Why Peterborough? No one has come up a credible suggestion yet

HQ 22nd Armoured Brigade also recorded in Peterborough Barracks Gluckstadt until the move to Warendorf in 1946 perhaps the Commander Brigadier ADR Wingfield named the barracks

Can you confirm that there is no connection between Peterborough and 1 RTR (who were and are still a Regiment which recruits from the North of England, though this has expanded over the years to take in disbanded Regiments home areas eg 4RTR Scotland, 5RTR Tyneside)

I can cfm that 1RTR have no connection with Peterborough! Mind you they occupied the bks at Gluckstadt at a time before the recruiting areas were carved in stone, incidently 4RTR were not disbanded, they amalgamated with 1RTR! The 5th were mind, back in 69.

To add to this have recorded 4 RTR were 79 Armd Div/31 Armd Bde in Bremervorde to 1 Corps District/34 Armd Bde in Rheine Jun 45 re equipped and to Italy Jan 46

JPW has done a great job researching unit locations 45/46 at Kew these will be fed into a new database but need to sort the higher command first as the unit location related to this
