I think we are all unaminous on this one. Spam was horrible, particularly when it was heated up but I'm sure it was welcome during the war when it would have been a pleasant change from the stuff that was being churned out before the Yanks joined in.
Spam fritters were OK, in my opinion, so long as they didn't appear too often.
On the subject of fritters, some enterprising chef we had devised a way of slicing jam sandwiches into fingers and deep frying them into jam fritters, they were well received. (Probably the same bloke who invented the infamous Deep Fried Mars Bar).
Who remembers that old stalwart served up for Sunday Evening Meal, Nasi Goreng, (known as Nazi Goering). Mixed in with rice would be; bacon, ham, spam and all the other junk left over from the previous week. Fair play though, it was more palateable served that way.

Okay a confession. My first mother-in-law who was a British War Bride (Cockney to) thought Spam was the cats meow. Still does as far as I know. Past that taste onto my ex. They couldn't understand why I or my father-in-law didn't appreciate left over pork and beef entrails. EEEEEEEEGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH
A little bit of Monty Python. Couldn't resist this.

I have never seen so many ways a cook can do to spam - fried, on toast, stew, hotpot, boiled, shredded, in a sandwich, etc. God Bless America !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Talking about US of A - remember as a lad in WW2 my Mum using their powdered egg.
